The Guilford RTC has drafted the following covenant and has voted to adopt this covenant as our promise to the town of Guilford. We will strive to fulfill this covenant to the best of our ability.*

2025 REPUBLICAN COVENANT WITH GUILFORD

1. Affordability

Lower property taxes through fiscal responsibility/efficiency. Utilize a cost benefit approach for spending and capital purchases.

2. Transparency

Form Charter Revision Commission to maximize citizen participation and communication. Utilize and allow access to school & town communication channels and websites in a nonpartisan manner. Allow reasonable time for debate and budget review. Require that the town and school budgets be voted on separately.

3. Accountability

No more debacles like the Methadone Clinic or botched land acquisitions.

4. Local Control

Protect local control of Planning and Zoning by withdrawing from CMDA or other programs that may circumvent or weaken local control over our town.

5. Compliance with Federal Guidelines

Comply with federal laws and guidelines regarding education, sanctuary cities, and title IX.

6. Prioritize Traditional Education

Return the focus of our school system to traditional education - Reading, Writing, Math, and Science, with the goal of making Guilford a top ten school in the state. Improve academic proficiency scores from the current scores of 25% of students reading below grade level and 34% below grade level in math (ref. www.niche.com).

7. End One Party Rule

Diversity of Opinion will be restored on Town Boards & Commissions, and vacancies will be filled from all parties fairly and promptly.
